First of all,I'll explain what it is.It only happens in Multiplayer, which means that yiu epic the car without hitting the car directly, like turning away right before hitting the car,it will result in the car you 'hit' crashed away, and you (most likely) don't get epic.Even the car is wasted, you'll only " (name) has been wasted! "

You may found some players is using this,or even yourself. So,I'd like to collection your opinion about this. How do you think about it?Do you think it's fine,or it's noobish way to win?

PostSubject: Re: Lag Wasting   Mon 22 Oct 2012, 7:22 pm

This topic is awful.

From way before the idea of NFMM ever existed, our idea of NFMM was going to be exactly how we played NFM in the old days. Nobody saw this coming.

Now, "Lag-Wasting" is not a tactic, or abuse of the system. It is neither nooby, nor tactical. It is how the system is, and us judging it is like telling a horse to drink from a puddle of water when it doesn't want to (and it won't, however hard we try), meaning we can't do otherwise.

Basically, categorizing wasting on NFMM into 2, legit and lag-wasting, cannot be done because we are using the same methods as on older NFM games, with lag itself. Whether we like it or not, it is the only way to actually hit someone else on NFMM, and I see no point in someone blaming it, or trying to excuse themselves with not knowing "lag-wasting". it is in inverted-commas for a reason, because it does not exist. Wasting, hasn't changed, it only made things more surreal, a Mighty Eight taking out a M A S H E E N without taking any damage - may sound impossible in real-life, or NFM as it is, but since we all agree NFMM is a game, then we must abide by what we say would appear in a game, or what makes a game fair. By this, it is just dumb to try and say that there's a difference between wasting on NFM, and wasting on NFMM, because we are still hitting the other cars.

Now, hitting the other cars on NFMM while still in motion? Yes sir, it still happens in NFMM. While it may not appear on our screen, it happened on our opponent's screen, so it's totally legit if they saw it. This delay that they can see, also works for them. You basically be in the spot where your opponent will be before them, and they get the damage instead of you. It's similar in the older installments of NFM, even what makes a collision, a collision. A car's momentum (mass multiplied by velocity), is how it's worked out on NFM, in NFMM it is still the same thing, except for an added value - time! However long we will be in our opponent's way, will determine how much damage they receive in our "lag-trail". Needless to say, this gives an edge to everyone since if they can see it, then it happened, it even applies to you.

Disagree with the use of this topic completely since debating about this is like debating between milk and skimmed milk.

Will leave open till topic has run it's course of community getting interested & posting.

Too many people mention stuff like "I'm so much more legit since I never lag waste" or "lagger" and it irritates me. Whether they like it or not, lag is now part of NFMM. If you don't like it, get out.

You can't "waste" without "lag wasting". It's simply impossible. Lag is part of the game, no matter what you do you'll always have some form of lag on you (even if it's pixel).

"By this, it is just dumb to try and say that there's a difference between wasting on NFM, and wasting on NFMM"

I disagree with only this piece of your post. Wasting has changed tremendously between the two generations of NFMM, and to say it's the same just with lag is like saying that kickboxing is the same just with feet.

I agree with the guy above.
Unless you live in a posh hotel or are really rich, and everyone that you are playing against is in a posh hotel or are really rich, you will always get SOME kind of lag, no matter what.
You must use lag to your full potential, otherwise, there would be almost no such thing as 'wasting' in the NFMM community. I really do not mind lag; it's part of the game, almost.

Exactly. Lag wasting is a result of well... hitting other cars. You aren't gonna waste others any other way.

Lol even then you would still have to lagg waste, it's not like you live right next to the server....

I actually saw this coming since I know about the project of Need for Madness Mutiplayer ¬_¬ .

Come on! Every mutiplayer game has some delay in their connection, so I though "this game implies direct contact between players at wasting, so this may be affected by the lag".

Actually I didn't know how much it does until I experienced personally, and after getting a true headache with it, I decided to analyze it and to turn the lag in my weapon. I use it sometimes at wasting (specially against OPs, that's the only way to defeat them with a legal waster), but that implies some factors; specially the stability in the connection, because with an unstable connection it's impossible to can control yourself, much less to waste .__. . But at racing... I think it's more than a factor for evasive actions or defense.

People that says "No, I don't use that, that isn't related with the classic Nfm" has nothing to do here. If you still don't know it, we're in the year 2012, and the current version of Need for Madness is the multiplayer one, and the lag, with all its strategies or disadvantages is now a FEATURE in the game, as all the other mutiplayer games. If you don't or can't manage the lag as a factor during the game, that doesn't make you better (or worse) player, so please get down of that cloud.

Lag Wasting: Simple, we just try to troll other NFMMers by this tactic. Wait, lag wasting isn't even a tactic! Other NFMMers use this tactic to be a so called "pro", heck, we thought NFMM was going to be like NFM1 or either NFM2. Just the usual way we play it, but these bastards, or so called "pro" NFMMers who just use lag wasting to win the game.

HECK NO, WE DON'T WANT LAG WASTING IN OUR NFMM! NFMM is just like original NFM. I disapprove lag wasting, and all of the ********uckers who use it. (Except for pr0s who use it.)

1. Don't talk by everyone in a public place as a forum. Always will be anybody in disagree with you (f.e. me e_e).

2. Explain yourself at "(Except for pr0s who use it.)", if you say that "lag wasting isn't even a tactic" and only the f*ckers use it, I ncan't find sense in the last sentence you written.

3. NfmM IS NOT like Nfm1 or Nfm2. Multiple internal modifications has been made to give support for mutiplayer connections, even the stats of the original game cars have been modified (anybody that have been playing this game from the beginning will know what I'm talking about), the engine to determine damages has been changed in a lot of components, many glitches has been fixed, the AI was completely redesigned (and seems like it's going to be redesigned again) and many properties are now applied automatically by the game (that's why, for example, we can't use the property stonecold() or shadow() in cars, the game just ignore them and use the default values).

4. Lag wasting is not more than a consequence of introducing lag in this game. The way in how a player can take this factor depends entirely of him, and as I said before, using it or not doesn't maye anybody a better or worse player (much less a f*cker, I know people that are true f*ckers, and they have no relationship with this topic).

@Jiggnfm wrote:

NO. You use lag to determine the actual location of you opponent and take the correct actions considering you own lag and his own. You can use it to avid collisions, or hit someone with the less damage possible (sometimes this generates nuking situations).

To understand and use the lag factor, you have to consider this:
- Your lag
- The estimated opponent lag (calculating it depends of each one, it's an abstract theme)
- The connection stability (a bad stability will make impossible to estimate the delay, in that case just run, run, run!)

Look guys, believe it or not, lag wasting is a part of almost ALL multiplayer games online, so that doesn't leave NFMM to be any different. I'll give you an example. Take COD (Call of duty) for instance. Anyone who has played the game online must've seen that you can't always damage an opponent by shooting him directly. Same is the case with NFMM. We all have different connections. Some have fast, some have slow, so it creates a type of delay among the players' cars due to which therefore you have to use "Lag wasting" in order to win. I'm pretty sure almost EVERYONE uses this and its completely legit and theres absolutely nothing wrong with it. If you're so into calling it a "nooby" way to win, then quit online gaming.

Raza is right.

I seen other games that use the same tactic.

However, you cant fight lag wasting, it is just the wi-fi, how would Insano fix it?

Its like stealing money and getting away with it...

Plus I have a friend that plays NFMM, and he gets wasted by the "Lag".

He thinks people are hacking NFMM, but I think it is the wi-fi....

The main thing I am trying to say is, how will you fight Lag Wasting when you can't do anything about it?

Doing nothing will just be like a robber stealing your stuff....

Frikish lagg wasting will always be there. Even if every nfmmer had the same EXACT connection we all live diffrent locations from the server meaning there will ALWAYs be lagg unless if everyone SOMEHOW lived right next to the server which is... yeah impossible.. I admit lagg wasting can cause some trolling but there are ways to anti-troll.. Like DragShot and Raza said, lagg is part of the game you can use it to ur advantage or just complain..

Lag-wasting isn't noobish, and noobish isn't the right word for it if you mean that...noob in general means Newbie. Not everyone has perfect connection and people use lag cause they're making use of what they have. There's nothing wrong about it, and no rules saying you can't lagwaste.

If I remember correctly, lag wasting was never a cheap or "noobish" strategy; it has its pros/cons. That would be like saying racing with Formula 7 is cheap, because you can get nuked by it if you hit it at the wrong time. There is no point in stating that lag wasting is noobish when majority of the players who play NFMM knows what lag is, and will lag waste as a strategy.

This could make me look like a hypocrite, but I bloody hate lagwasting. It gets on my nerves when I play.
Just about to kamikaze BAM the opponent flies away.
About to enter a head on BAM I take no damage.
About to waste a long time rival in a really satisfying way BAM I don't see what happens.

See my point? While I have a 50% chance of lagging an opponent, it annoys me just as much as it annoys them when it happens,

Seems like you don't know enough about one of the main factors in the game. That makes you, in theory, a noob (or novate).

If you don't know how to manage with it that's your problem. Deal with it, you will learn with the time.
