I would never have imagined that I would still be playing this game today when I first started four years ago. From a "logical" standpoint, there are only so many cars and stages to choose from ( even with the stage maker people prefer game stages and not too many custom stages are considered good). So I've asked myself, how has this game kept me entertained through all these years?

1. Customer Support/ The Developer: Insano is very interactive with the community and is consistently fixing issues with the game and creating new content. He responds to just about everything he gets and does do small, probably unnecessary things to keep up happy. For example, in January 2012, he manually changed my username as well as BloodyCoco's. There are large companies out there who would literally do nothing if their database gets hacked, and here we have a one man team who puts a lot of effort. Thank you Insano for the great game and Support.

2. Price: I don't like paying a high price to continuously play One game. I probably wouldn't have started the game if it wasn't 1$ a month. Pretty much any decent multiplayer games cost money and its nice not having 1000 advertisements all up in my face.

3. No "Pay to Win" Aspect: This game doesn't have any micro transactions that would provide an advantage to those willing to spend a ton of money and there isn't a leveling system or a value for any items in the game ( in this case cars/stages). Everyone has a fair chance when it comes to winning. It is nice knowing that a few players can't just monopolize the game and make it awful for others. I admit I've had many undeserved victories in this game.

4. No Pressure: Similar to #3, there is nothing to be gained nor lost by winning/losing. I have more fun exploring new techniques ( aka driving like a moron just to see how long it would take for someone to destroy me and/or if someone would get hit in the process), rather than actually playing the game. There isn't an "effective" way of doing things on the game since there isn't really an endgoal for this game which is nice because I don't feel forced to bore myself a little just to reach a goal. It is nice playing at my own pace.

5. Interesting Moments: Whether it is by pulling a Meaty stunt that results in getting myself wasted, driving into walls/ramps/rails/obstacles or driving into a dead cars, I have done it all. This game consistently creates funny moments which make a lot more enjoyable.

6. Clan and Friends : Same Category because I feel my clan is a group of friends ( well I'm not in one currently since I have issues which prevent me from knowing if I'd ever be able to participate in the clan.) That aside, it is amazing talking to people over the internet. I can discuss anything on my mind and most people are on board. There are topics I've brought up with my irl friends and they didn't even let me continue rip

7. AIM: What can I say, this forum is great. The administrator is awesome, he gives people advice, he welcomes discussion (even if he disagrees), pretty much what people wish "Democracy" is like. Other things are great such as making useless posts, trying out nfmm versions, creating and joining tournaments creating troll clans. This Forum has it all and I'm happy to be a part of it.

These are my reasons, please share yours Smile

Being completely honest here, my reasons are all the same as yours.

I just never found any other games around the internet as entertaining/addicting as NFMM, pretty much. NFM1 instantly became my favorite game back when my old friend introduced me in 2006. I would play it on my home computer every day and I just couldn't get enough! Same when NFM2 came along.

And ever since NFMM, it's definitely been the most dominate influence of my free time. I wonder how much longer I'll still be around... Right now, I don't think I ever want to quit this game, or this forum, the community here (not as much on NFMM) is so fun to interact with and I dunno what I'd be doing if you guys weren't here. XD

My reasons are more less the same, I'll just add an extra point to that.

8. NFM Editing - through NFM I've learned that programming is one of the things I want to do in life and it motivated me to learn Java. Though I don't post many version updates anymore, I'm still fairly active in the editing area.

Hm, a thread about why you play the game... Eh it's been years since my account ran out but it still exists. Here's my spiel, read it or don't:

I had initially picked up my subscription to play online with everyone else. As it was, I was able to race with a few people at my school. We'd spend lunches and study halls battling for who was better... Fun times. Then I had others I knew from AIM to race with, and we'd go at it for a few hours. Didn't matter if I won or lost, it was kinda fun. We all joked about kicking everyone else in the ballz when NFMM came out with our monster cars back in the day... Ahh good times were had...

AND THEN THE SUPPORT FOR CUSTOM CARS AND STAGES CAME OUT AMG AMG AMG.

But after a while, I got bored. I forget if this was before or after Kitty showed up, but shortly after she did show up, I helped start TOF. Being in the clan was... A bit of a mind opener, actually. I sucked to hell and back, but apparently TOF was good. I dunno I never showed up to the battles, mostly just worked on things for the website and provided cars. Kitty left TOF, leadership was passed around, I left a while after. I think the Fiero took my attention away? Probably that's what happened...

Then one night, Space Core wanted MDX and I to hop on NFMM. MDX did so willingly, but as I had a bottle (or rather, skull) of booze that wasn't going to consume itself, I started drinking and playing. Kids, don't drink and drive, it's bad. It never ends well. Neither does NFMMing while chugging crystal head. XD

My account ran out a long time ago, but as it's still existing, I am able to publish cars for private use and send them to... "Interested" parties. If you are a very lucky being, and manage to catch the right person at the right time, you *might* get a glimpse of a vehicle published under the account "JINTEI@GR".

NFMM stopped holding my interest a while ago. It turned into the same thing over and over again for my brain. If Omar wants my money, I'm gonna suggest he updates the game with new content (cars, stages, new pieces, track maker that doesn't suck ass...) and actually stays in contact with more of the community more often than he is now.

That's my two cents. I'll probably vanish again when the Fiero is fully assembled and I can go about dialing it in and running it hard again...

Yeah my parents wanted to "cure" me of my addiction to the computer and all it did was make me realize how much I actually like this game.

Yeah I figured people would say that. Unfortunately for me, I could hardly make nfm versions work on my computer, some versions I simply don't play because they don't work for me. So I figured I wouldn't try to edit it myself, also considering I can't even form proper stages with a stage maker either. So not really the case for me ,that dodo is too hard.

That isn't what I asked, I was hoping you could share what about the game that you love, rather than your process of elimination. Thanks for posting anyway

Black Dragon wrote:

I completely agree. There's actually a part of me that doesn't want to improve at the game because I love it so much. Idk how to explain it but a part of me always wants to lose. Time and time again looking at other games, people who were "The best" would play a little then quit, because there wasn't much to be done, they already knew everything they need to. When a person is losing, they have things to improve on, when they win, well they already won right, nothing much they can do differently.

I mean, he is a one man team and I understand that he has other things to do rather than update the game. It would be nice if this game reached more success so that he could afford to hire people to help out, but I'm happy with the state of the game regardless.

As soon as I was introduced to NFMM and started playing, I was like this is a really fun game. One of the main reasons was that I had found a game that was fun and didn't require any money whatsoever (you could play 5 games per day which felt like a reasonable ammount judging by the fact you could watch games too) As I carried on playing this game, I had discovered that it had become a part of my life to play NFMM and when I joined my first and only clan and I was introduced to AIM, NFMM and AIM were a daily thing for me.

One of the main reason why I loved playing this game is because it was never boring. It was never the same sh.it happening over and over again, I would have good days and bad days in NFMM. If I had found out that I was really good at the game or really bad at the game, I would have stopped playing long ago. But then again, I still probably wouldn't have left AIM because of how nice the community is which goes back to what Prayers said. The adminstrator is amazing, helps everyone out. It's been 5+ years since AIM began if I'm not mistaken and he's still here so well done. Clap

Yes, I came back to NFMM because I suddenly liked making stages. The thing about NFMM is, I could make stages my way (with the exception of a few things that aren't possible).
Not only that, but some people open up and give us tips to make us better at what we do.

I agree with all that you've listed Pray, couldn't have said it better. Nothing's like what this game has.

I found it thinking about NFM1, I could not find anything that could entertain me in 2011.
A big reason for sticking around is because there are friends to come back to. I have a couple that I can meet up with only now and then in real life, but I'm bad at talking to them anyway. With the guys here, I'm able to touch on subjects I don't ever try speaking of with friends and family irl.

For me, I love this game for not being all that complicated. I like that it's simple to work with, easy for a lazy nob gamer like me to understand. If I tried getting into any other game, I would seriously just downwright suck. It was so fun to practise from where I left off (October 2013) and there is not a time I regret playing ever since. I had a good time from 2011-mid 2013 with the players I met who were in my league of skills, but now that I know how to play better, I can make the best out of both worlds. I've put hard work into this game, no turning back.

I play this game almost solely for the strategic aspect. How in-depth the metagame is resonates with me to a degree that I don't think any other game could. Disguised under a veil of simplicity is actually a massively complex assortment of maneuvers, tactics, and strategies that only this game can offer.

I was just as enthralled with it during the time of NFM1 as I am now, and for that I can't see myself finding a better game to go to anytime soon.

Along with the fact that you get to interact with people from around the world. As I said before, a small 3D game that connected, Cities, States, Countries, Continents together.

Yeah it is nice when people give constructive criticism to help others improve their stages. To be quite frank, sometimes I flat out refuse to try people's stages because I don't know them, so I assume their stages are bad. Recently I've tried out a few stages by people I wasn't famuiliar with and I've got to say, they're great. That made me realize, for someone to be known or for a stage to be known,rather... Someone else has to try it and tell others. So, just because I didn't know of the stage, doesn't make it bad. Seems like common sense, but it wasn't to me. I've been trying to keep an open mind since.

I agree, I enjoyed meeting up with Turbo and Insano in person, sometimes I wish this world wasn't so big so that I could meet others that play the game as well. And yeah talking to family is such a pain. While it is fun trolling them every once in a while, if I say "Crap" they're justl like " WHAT DID U SAY LJGOERO9JHREQMJHOHIQHMNOQEHNMJOERTGO"

Ah can't believe I missed this one. the only requirements are the arrows and the spacebar ( the rest are optional) and the instructions are pretty clear and to the point. Nothing annoys me more than starting with a "Practice" mode... This game I play occassionally called "Gun Mayhem",which you basically shoot people in attempts to knock them off the stage simple controls too but there was a practice stage that you fight a dummy that doesn't even shoot back... and I lost to it... Best gamer 2015 I am. The controls were simple too. Unlike you, if a game had complicated controls, I wouldn't even bother trying to play it =p

Yeah that is a bonus, but it is incredibly annoying when people make stereotypes about your country espically when most of them are true

Well lets go back into the summer/fall of 2005

When my brother introduced NFM to me
I suck ass then but I barely remember playing that

Fast Forward: 2008
I found NFM on my computer and I beat it (it took me like a week though)
And I was so damn excited XD XD

Fast Forward: 2010
NFM2 comes out and I was like ZOOOOMG I GOTTA PLAY THIS
IT TOOK ME EVEN LONGER TO BEAT THIS ONE LOOOOL

Fast Forward: Early 2011

I hear Omar talking about making a NFMM and he had them
test servers (only veterans will know this Razz) and I played all
test version 1,2,3,&4
THOSE WERE THE DAYS

Now: Well not much to say NFMM is like something that I cant get rid of
sure I can be inactive but I cant take this game away from it
I mean its my childhood Razz Stages and friends and comedy all keeps me
on NFMM otherwise... I would have left a long time ago

PostSubject: Re: Why do you play NFM Multiplayer?   Why do you play NFM Multiplayer? Icon_minitimeWed 08 Jul 2015, 2:34 pm

I remember first playing NFMM in 2013 when I had my old laptop; it had a rubbish graphics card so I couldn't play any of the big games and luckily I stumbled upon the NFM website. Then last year, with my new laptop, I managed to find NFMM again and put my car-making skills to good use. That's the thing, I always love a game that has a creative side to it; NFMM has just that! Very Happy

Another one of NFM's many qualities is that it symbolises what a game should be about. Most games these days rely on their HD graphics and fancy systems as selling points, but NFM gets the players playing because of the never-ending nuggets of action and fun you can have. Not one session is the same so you can be sure that you're always entertained. Plus the fact that new cars and new stages mean endless possibilities

Another point to make is that it has lots of potential for development, as Phyrexian said. I only joined the CMFs for a couple of weeks before R-Vo started Laughing. Java's fairly easy to code in and understandable at the least. It's cool that RadicalPlay allow people to make their own versions of NFM because people can personalise the game and add extra features without changing the original product. It also allows Editors to advertise the game to people who've never played NFM before so a win:win situation for RP

Finally, back on the subject of Car Making Laughing, I don't really play NFMM any more; one or twice but not full on. However, the inclusion of Car Maker specifically helped to develop my 3D modelling skills and train the eye to what is a perfect car or not. Whether it's a gamer, designer, programmer or community member, NFM will at least bring one of these characteristics out of you! Very Happy

I play NFMM because it's full of incredible veteran players that I can learn from and that help me improve every single day.

The reality is, I'm still kind of a "noob" compared to the rest of the community. I've only been on NFMM for about 7 months, but I've played the game for about 7 years. When I first decided to join the multiplayer world, it was a lot for me. The competition online versus in single player is much stiffer. I'll be the first to say that when I first joined, I was bad. Couldn't buy a win if I had $50. It was so tough for me that I really doubted my future online. But then I began interacting with the players that had been online much longer. The more I play them, the better I get. You could say I'm kinda like a "work in progress". If the community wasn't full of such amazing folks, I would've quit back in January when I joined. Being a member of the NFMM community makes me feel like part of an extended family. A family that helps each other improve their weaknesses and become better all-around. That's why I play. I love improvement, friends, and having a fun time. The community offers all of that.

Thanks for sharing. None of us started strong on Need For Madness Well...Maybe a few, from the top of my memory Demise and 10thgrave caught on to the "lagg wasting" very quickly. I recall I'd be kind of annoyed while playing against 10thgrave, he would turn and I'm driving straight, with full power and speed and I take all the dmg ( usually when you're turning you slow down and if that were on LAN he would have been the one destroyed) and I'd just be like "wtf is wrong with this game" I started during September 2011 and I don't think I was even aware that lagg wasting until early 2012. When I started NFMM, I hadn't even beaten 4D or The Gun Run. There was some kind of glitch that unlocked themselves for me... So yeah, given the changes in wasting the majority of us started out like you.
