Stage Making Tournament XIV Hello, and welcome to the Stage Making Competition of 2014! This tournament will takes place during the very last week of 2014 and kick of 2015 with a bang by lasting until the 19th of January. It will consist of a diverse amount of participants for casual stage makers, to others that dedicate their time to refurbish a stage they are working on. However, overall this is for pure enjoyment for those that are interested.
Now, as easy as stage making will seem for the majority; this is for those who are ambiguous in refining their stage making skills, or for others that just want to enter casually. This tournament is ultimately for everyone, so it won't matter how good or bad you may think your stage making skills are. In the end we all will just want to have a good time, right?
Well, if that's the case and you do decide that you want to partake in this tournament, be aware that you will be classified into one of these 2 groups: Pure Stage Makers & Coders. These will be explained in more depth:
- Spoiler:
1.) Pure Stage Coders: People that use stage maker completely. The stage(s) they create are used with stage maker only which rules out any manual editing such as coding.
2.) Coders: People that code their stages out completely, or code their stage to make edits to their stages for their benefit. People that use the stage maker and code their track(s) will also be classified as such.
Now moving on, there is are quite a few of regulations that every participant must abide to. If not then they will be disqualified; these regulations are explained below: Regulations:- Spoiler:
1.) Your stage MUST not be racing only! This includes extremely large stages that is 3 or more laps. ie. For a comparison on stage sizes; your stage must not be full of empty space. Plain and simple.
Also, stages that are racing oriented, but is able to waste on efficiently is perfectly acceptable.
2.) Stage dimensions must not exceed the length and width of 4 Dimensional Vertigo (4DV).
3.) Your stage can only have a minimum of 4 laps and/or a maximum of 10 laps.
4.) Your stage must not go beyond the Stage Maker piece limit!
5.) For coders: Please, do not submit any super dark or extremely saturated colored stages. They cause a lot of strain and tension on our eyes.
6.) For coders: the fadefrom() amount can not be below 4000.
7.) For everyone: Try to avoid including unnecessary checkpoints unless you validate/specify that your track is not designed for shortcuts.
8.) Do not use any of the new NFMM obstacles please. This includes The Net, Bump Slides, and offroad piles.
9.) If you use any of the NFMM scenery objects, make sure it is appropriate for your stage! Try not to add a bunch of trees in your stage and don't clump a bunch of ground piles in your stage either!
10.) You must create a new stage to enter! No stages that have already been finished are allowed!
11.)Lastly, if you use any of the new NFMM roads and/or ramps, use only the following:
rollercoaster roads speed ramp tunnel side ramp offroad hill ramp offroad big hill ramp
Voting & Judging: The voting process for this tournament will be a community effort by the community on AIM and the judges. This is to prevent unfairness in votes and a wider range of reasonable scores for each person. The scoring will be based on certain criteria that the judges will look thoroughly into and the community can comment on. The community's vote will count for 40% of the overall scoring process while the judges' vote will count for 60% of the overall scoring process. **Please note that if you are not participating in this tournament, but you would like to vote for someone that is partaking in this event, you may only vote for one person! YOU MUST ALSO STATE WHY YOU VOTED FOR THAT PERSON! REASONS SUCH AS "the stage is awesome" OR ANY OTHER VAGUE REASONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND WILL BE DENIED IN THE VOTING PROCESS.**
*ALSO PARTICIPANTS, PLEASE DO NOT BRIBE ANYONE TO VOTE FOR YOU. IF YOU DO THIS THEN YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THIS EVENT!!*
FOR PARTICIPANTS: What the community will score you on: - Spoiler:
- Code:
-
Colors & Atmosphere:
Playability

*Note: You are rated on a scale of 1/10*
What the judges will score you on: - Spoiler:
Colors & Atmosphere: Does your stage atmosphere blend well with the colors? Is it fitting? Scenery: Elaborated in the spoiler below - Spoiler:
- Code:
-
Stages With Scenery: Is your trees and piles placed in good spots? Is there too much?
Without Scenery: Does the cloud colors seem appropriate for the stage? Is the ground texture too bland or does it stand out?
Layout: The main track direction. Is it confusion? Is there multiple directions you can take? Originality: How original is your stage. Is it more unique than other stages seen daily? Suitability: Is it more suited for playing on NFMM or against the AI in Singleplayer and NFM2? Soundtrack: Is the soundtrack appropriate for your stage? Does it fit with the overall theme of the stage atmosphere? Placement: Placement of items such as obstacles, ramps, and checkpoints. Were there not enough ramps? Was there too many? Playability: In other words, would the stage be easily played again. If it's likable then you will easily want to keep playing that same stage again. *Note: You are rated on a scale of 1/10*

| Name: Krazzidyz Type of Stage: Racing Applying for what category: Pure Stage Maker Questions & Comments: 1. Is it okay if I code the background colors? 2. Where do we have to submit our stages (e.g. PM, YouTube, MediaFire, etc)? 3. What if our stage is pure racing? Can it still not exceed the dimensions of Dances with Monsters? Looking forward to this tournament! |

Both of you might want to refer to the Regulations spoiler again... - Afterburn wrote:

Also, stages that are racing oriented, but is able to waste on is perfectly acceptable as long as the stage dimensions is not bigger than Dances and Monsters. Also Krazzidyz, to answer your 3 questions: 1.) Yes, it is perfectly acceptable. Just be aware that you will be listed as a Coder instead of a Pure Stage Maker. 2.)I forgot to mention in the original post; but you will submit your stage 2 ways: When you submit your stage you will provide a few screenshots of it and a layout screenshot. This is for the community's part in voting. If your stage is for NFMM then you will just publish it under your account as public. The judges will then add your stage so we can play it and determine what we liked & didn't like. However, if one of us can't play it on NFMM, then just PM them the code to your stage (will be stated on the OP). 3.)Once again, your stage can not be pure racing. This means that your stage can not be racing only, or is intended for racing only. However, your stage CAN BE racing oriented, but it must still be able to waste on effectively. In short terms, this will just be dubbed as a "both" stage. Also, regardless of what type of stage you are creating, it can't exceed the dimensions of Dances and Monsters. I hope this clears everything up. |

Type of Stage: Wasting oriented. (It might end up being more of a balanced both track though)
Applying for what category: Coder
Questions & Comments: 1. How are you going to know that stages submitted for the 'pure stage maker' category were actually made using only the stage maker and not at least partially coded?
2. Does the stage soundtrack affect the scoring in any way? |

| Aerial, to answer your questions: 1.) Participants will be asked to post a screenshot of their stage with the atmosphere tab visible. The RGB mask, density, and Near/Far marks are an indicator if the stage colors were coded or not. Also, the actual colors such as the Sky, Fog, and Ground is a big giveaway if those values were coded or not. Stage maker provides a limited set of color distribution in the Colors tab to make the colors blend in with the stage atmosphere. When those 3 parts are changed in the code, they will typically show of really vivid color schemes that is beyond stage maker's limits. Also, participants shouldn't have any reason to lie about their stage colors. 2.) Originally it wasn't going to, but we (the judges) might take that into account because a soundtrack provides a certain feeling while playing a stage. I hope this answer your questions |

| Wow, I'm surprised I finished it fast. Anyways, I'll show you the screenies.
Peaceful Oceans
Layout: http://prntscr.com/5knxmg
Gameplay: http://prntscr.com/5knxyx
I've published this on NFMM as public. Both-oriented, 4 laps.
EDIT: See that split road? I put the checkpoint further for a shortcut (placed near the ramp on the end of the split dirt road, if you know what I mean). Similarly to Dances and Monsters, it is also convenient for cars like R1 to AB straight to that checkpoint. |
