PostSubject: How do you consider a player to be   Wed 26 Sep 2012, 10:58 am

As the title says, how do you guys consider or classify a player to be "good" ?

By getting to know them better?
By watching them play?
By being of somewhat, similar level of skill to them?
By acknowledging them as an equal other in playing?
Good sportsmanship?
Creative/tactical mind?

Feel free to mention guys! The discussion starts from here.

I think that, in my opinion, a person must know pretty much how to use every aspect of playing, like over-estimation, bouncing, track shortcuts, the works. Aside from possibly a reasonable attitude, even, interest in other people's view or playing style. But not a massive ego... or over-use of "Overpowered cars" or overkill stages, preferably playing on other people's stages to possibly give a lasting impression on everyone else.

Remember to criticize a view, not the person himself!

IMO, a good player has a good sportsmanship spirit, knows how to accept defeats, and has a good attitude. how a player masters a game has very little to do with this. is that what you asked for or did I misunderstand you?

Well it's a discussion topic, one where I'd like to see what everyone thinks, and maybe see or question why and when and how and you know the rest.

There's no right answer, the opening lines are apetisers!

Good sportsmanship is one of them. Like Silver had stated; a player who can accept a loss, and does not get angry shows can show he's good.

But I also believe that a creative/tactical mind can make a player, "skilled" (good of course). But not copying other's skills, but by creating his own, and using these in his or
her abilities in matches, where he's in a tough pickle. (weird phrase I know).

In my opinion, a good player would be considered "good" if they have skills, know how to play without boasting and other stuff like that.

If the player is an okay player, and they don't show it, I'd think they were good.

If they are okay but they boast like hell, I'd say they're the most obnoxious, sucky player ever.

Honestly, I'm tired of boasters.

Actually now that I think about it, a players skill's also comes into play. What I was talking about earlier was about a good personality. But yeah like this guy up here (^) says, boasting ruins his reputation. Humility is very important.

I agree with Stryker. Also, I believe a player is good when he's determined and doesn't give up easily. I mean even if he's last due to a poor start /bl glitch or something he keeps trying. I also like it when players can take a loss.

IMO, A good player needs to be actually good at the game, like someone who can win at least 50% of the time against other 'good' people.
That doesn't help, does it?
Well I think they also need to know the skills like AB, Bounce and all that stuff. They should also be able to use the original NFM2 cars to win, not OP cars with no skill involved.
For personality, I think you should not boast about every win, or get mad often (like moi Razz) or just be a complete prick in general (MANS, rave, etc.).
For racing, he/she should be able to get at least second last after a bad start (bad landing, lag start, masheen smash etc.) normally on normal tracks. 4DV is an exception. He should also not get mad when something bad happens.
When wasting, he/she should be able to lag waste, and not always use MASHEEN. Use hiding spots and around corner ambushes and all that stuff.
In general, he should be able to beat most n00bs in a 1v1, 1v2, 1v3, 1v4 or maybe 1v5 and 1v6. Really, it depends on what he/she's good at, and i need to see their style.
That's my idea of 'good'. Well maybe 'pro' but who cares.

I believe sportsmanship, kindness, attitude, ego, and originality have absolutely nothing to do with a player being "good".

Maybe it would make them a good person, but as for enhancing their physical performance it would do nil.

You can be a stuck-up, rude, egotistical, unoriginal snob and still be the best player in NFMM. I don't rank people's skill on how likable they are, but I rank it on their skill purely.

As I think, a good player has Sportsmanship over everything else, good skills in one or both main strategies of the game (wasting and/or racing), knows how to accept a defeat and just wait for the next game to take his twisted revenge and overall enjoy playing no matter the results, because finally all this is just for fun.

Actually talking of best/worst players is the kind of stuff that can ruin any game.

Well, a good player is a player who has good sportsmanship and a player who knows how to accept defeat. And also knows to have some revenge. Hey, this is NFMM. It's madness. Revenge is just so sweet in NFM. Twisted Evil

Sportsmanship is the most important thing an NFM player should have. He should be able to accept defeat, learn from his mistakes, and of course, never give up.

As for skills, a player should never boast about his skills, instead, he should think that he's still 'learning' from others. And being competitive is also very important. Losing a match is more honorable and respectful than disconnecting.

I always try to have these qualities, to be a great player.

Classifying a player is "good." Well firstly, you see how they are at what they do. For example in NFMM. How they play and work out there skills. Secondly, you see, how they communicate with other people. There language, way of talking etc. Thirdly, you notice there reactions at wins and losses.

In short, besically, a player's skill and attitude is largely responsible for how the community judges them.

Reflective question IP Wink
Consider this: A guy in school has the best Math score but he is arrogant. Regardless, he still receives the award for being the best in Math. In the same way, a person who is good on nfmm is simply good regardless of his attitude, sportsmanship value or anything in relevance. For racing or wasting, a person who can win a majority of his game wud be classified as good. Of course, it's arguable that u wud say that new players find it easier to win against players their level. True but for playing players their level, they are good. But in relevance to greater players, they have insufficent skills or experience to compare with them and thus the higher level players are classified as very good or in other words: 'Pro.'

So, what you're trying to say is, considering NFMM, that technically, you'll judge a player by his skills etc and how he plays NFMM and not care, regardless of the fact if the player isn't good to you or kind, compassionate etc?

Thats one way of putting up my opinion though.

Raza, technically I wud want a player to be an all-rounder, to be good at the game but also kind, not arrogant neither rude and so on. However, their heart doesn't make them any better in their wasting or racing skills. If a person is super nice and has great sportsmanship, he still may suck at nfmm. And vice versa, a person can be proud and yet be excellent at the game. It's just the definition of good, which as IP mentioned above is a discussed issue based of differing views and opinions. However, I wud not publicly acknowledge or praise a skiled player that doesn't have a heart.

You know. This isn't real life. It's basically a sort of replica, you can say. Using phrases like "good by heart" does not convey your message clearly. Seems you're talking in a romantical way about the player.

Basically, as I said, the COMMUNITY judges a player by his attitude, performance, way of interaction and his "goodness."

But I think, if you're considering a game like NFMM, or any other online game. If a player is good, he should be judged by his gameplay, rather than by his attitude towards you. As I said, this is the internet world. People might act differently here, from the way they act in real life. Thus, you cannot simply judge a person online. If you don't believe me, try judging someone on omegle.

Well, it's my opinion. Yours might be different.

A "good" player is a player that is capable of winning games and is able to realistically challenge other players.
Being well known (for the right reasons) helps a lot when it comes to gaming, especially games like NFM and others with a small gaming community.
Sportsmanship is of foremost importance as a player who can take losing well and accepts the fact that he/she has been beaten should always be considered a player with a good attitude to other gamers.
Respect is also extremely important, treat gamers as you would like to be treated yourself (like reality). Just because you are behind the anonymity of your keyboard doesn't mean you can treat people badly.
Tactics and ability are important, if you play like an AI you'll get beaten hands down.
So it's always good to have a bit of creativity and tactics to make yourself a known threat.

A "good" player has nothing to do with attitude, as SaSS stated.

To reiterate: One can be an obnoxious, rock, idiotic player but still win every match. This makes them a great player, but an awful person with a bad attitude.

Most people let attitudes mar their view of skill. For example, Raza is actually not bad at the game. He knows how to play strategically. However, since his attitude often appears as rock or mocking after he wins a match (paired with his lag), people say he sucks since they don't like him as a person.

I always regard a person's skill. I separate this from their attitude, but if their attitude is lacking then no one is going to really want to play them anyway (indirectly affecting how skilled they appear to the community).

Though I do not have NFMM, yet, I'll answer this question, because I have other people who play this... Razz
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A "good" player should have a lot of skill and sometimes want's to "challenge" himself/herself or other people.

But for my opinion, its to have Sportsmanship and wants to take wild chances and having fun. Smile

A good player IMO must be able to play fairly with others and can hold their own against another player better then them or against more then one person at a single time.
